Review - hermeneutics - grammatical historical
OT review - Historical Narrative - Wisdom
Today - the WHY - why do the work of interpretation?
The Bible is the words of God
2 Peter 1:20-21 “knowing this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture comes from someone’s own interpretation. For no prophecy was ever produced by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.”
2 Peter 3:16 “as he does in all his letters when he speaks in them of these matters. There are some things in them that are hard to understand, which the ignorant and unstable twist to their own destruction, as they do the other Scriptures.”
ps 119:9-10 “How can a young man keep his way pure? By guarding it according to your word. With my whole heart I seek you; let me not wander from your commandments!”
That we may not be shamed.
2 Tim 2:15 “Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth.”
a WORKER - RIGHTLY HANDLING
to wrongly handle brings shame.
maybe not immediately, but eventually.
Ps 119:6 “Then I shall not be put to shame, having my eyes fixed on all your commandments.”
That we may be blessed!
ps 119:1-2 “Blessed are those whose way is blameless, who walk in the law of the Lord! Blessed are those who keep his testimonies, who seek him with their whole heart,”
That we may not sin against the Lord
ps 119:11 “I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.”
And a few more...
2 Tim 3:16-17 “All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.”
without the study of the scriptures we are:
untaught - uncorrected
untrained - unrighteous - incomplete
not equipped - unable to do good works.
SO! Do the work! How?
A walk through proverbs 2: Proverbs 2 .
